Young's Farm...
....is first and foremost a working farm. This farm will generate revenue and provide rehabilitation and work opportunities for those with a passion for farming, the errant or disabled. Work on a farm provides daily opportunites for success and the knowledge that each individual has accomplished something important. Farm work builds self confidence, character, problem solving and communal relationships.....skills that can be used throughout their lives. In addtion, the products and services from this property will provide an opportunity to create skill sets that will help each individual realize career goals.
A regional nursery will be devloped through greenhouses and crop areas on the farm. We will produce a variety of crops from organic vegetables and fruits to nuts, flowers and shrubery. The goal is to provide marketable consumable products that will enhance the community and generate revenue. Through the nursery the public will be able to purchase necessary vegetation to landscape their yard, enhance their homes or feed their families. This may lead to the develpment of a landscaping business......we will see as it unfolds.
Horse barn's on the property will be for rehabilitation and the breeding of specialty horses. It is widley known that Thoroughbred horses are very competitive race horses. It is also known that a Thoroughbred that is not winning races is auctioned off to the highest bidder. These beautiful animals are skilled runners and very strong endurance animals. Our goal is to take these beauties and breed them with Belgian Draft horses. Belgian Drafts are strong muscular horses of great size. The combination of these two breeds produce the perfect Drasage and Hunter Jumper horse as well as a very quick and agile Roping horse. The rehabilitation, care, training and breeding of horse has been shown to be one of the most effective theraputic treatments for juveniles, former offenders and the disabled. There is a special "knowing" in a horse that causes the horse to react differently to each individual. The horse and caregiver create bonds that perhaps the person is not capable of creating with other people.
The farm will also cultivate it's own hay and alfalfa products to feed the horses that are housed and trained at the facility. If the space is available, these crops will also be harvested for sale to other farms and ranches in the area.
